Wilburn was born April 30, 1926 in Richland, Georgia to Minnie Elizabeth Mathis and General Lee Adams. Wilburn attended Saint James Rural School and grew up in the Stewart County area where in 1956 he married Ms. Eula Mae Wilson in Lumpkin, GA. He had retired from Columbus Water Works after 23 ½ years and was a member of Saint James Baptist Church in Stewart County, GA. Wilburn led a very quiet and simple but happy life. He loved being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch, listening to music and having an occasional drink. He taught his children by example to have humility and a mild demeanor. His favorite movies were “Driving Ms. Daisy” and “Lean on Me”. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who always was there no matter the situation. A caretaker and provider for anyone seeking help. His favorite saying was “Just leave it like it is.”
Wilburn was preceded in death by his wife Eula Mae Wilson Adams; father General Lee Adams and mother Minnie Elizabeth Mathis; siblings Annie Brown, Carrie Adams, Le Roy Adams, Rosie Lee Adams, Menzop Adams, Murray Arementa, Bertha Wilson, John Adams, Doris Williams, Oliver Adams, and Hanson Adams.
He is survived by daughters Mattie Robinson, Andreaette Cole, Priscilla Shorter, Gwen E. Lowery; sons Wilburn Adams, Jr., Thurmond C. Adams; and Lathel S. Adams; sister-in-law Jessie Rae Radney; niece Lorretta Thomas, nephew Alphonson Wilson, 41 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchild and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Adams also had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
