
William Sloan Flournoy, Sr. of Columbus, Georgia passed away July 11, 2026. He was born November 1, 1950 to his late parents Martha Rachel and Robert Josiah Flournoy of Columbus and he was a life-long resident.
Sloan graduated from Columbus High School in 1968 and attended West Georgia College. After college he served in the National Guard. He was a member of St. Luke Church.
Sloan worked with his father at Flournoy Insurance Company and later worked for J. Smith Lanier & Co. (Marsh & McLennan Agency) for 37 years retiring as Vice President. He served on many boards in Columbus and was currently a board member on the Riverdale-Porterdale Cemetery Foundation, which was a great passion of his.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Eugene Flournoy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Martin Flournoy and his children, William Sloan Flournoy, Jr. (Emily), Frank Martin Flournoy (Alex) and his grandchildren, Sloan III, Penny and Frances. Big Pop was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a true and faithful friend to many.
There will be a visitation at St. Luke Church on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 3:00 PM in Stockwell Hall followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00 PM in the Sanctuary.
