It is with deep sorrow that we announce William Calvin "Cut" Greer, Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of May 11, 2026 at age 88.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was a man of warmth, humor and resilience. His kindness, love for his family and sweet soul was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. He lived a life rooted in hard work, integrity, and love for his family. He was an owner operator for the family business, Greer Fertilizer and a bulk mail contractor for the United States Postal Service for 42 years. After retirement, he spent his early afternoons making his rounds as a greeter at Coopers Hardware in Waverly Hall, GA and BR&R in Ellerslie, GA. You could always find him with a smile and snack sitting in his chair making conversation with all who came in the store.
He is survived by his son, William Calvin Greer, Jr. and daughter in law Lynn Greer of Midland, GA, He was also known as "Da" to Two granddaughters, Denise McClary (Kyle) of Smiths Station, AL, and Doan Harris (Eric) of Warm Springs, GA and one grandson William Greer, III (Robin) of Upatoi, GA. He had 12 Great-Grandchildren; Grant Parham, Griffin Osborn, Garrison McClary, Tristin Lee (McKenzie) Gavin Lee, Memphis Lee, Aleah Harris, Brain Harris, Rebecca Harris, Bobbie Gerry, John Gerry and Calvin Greer IV and 3 Great-Great Granddaughters Alison, Carolyn and Ember as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Russell Greer, his parents Eddie and Martha Greer of Midland, GA, Brothers James Greer, Richard Greer, Gene Greer and sister Patricia McRae and great-grandson Russell Greer.
We’ll miss his humor, jokes, kindness, and the simple life he lived. His nature will always be remembered by those who loved and knew him. His love, laughter and smile will stay with us always. May he rest in peace.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 5pm - 7pm at Striffler Hamby Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Gail Smith and Kevin Martin officiating.
