William Franklin Hinson, also affectionately known as “Lump Lump”, age 87, of Fortson, GA, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 20, 1938, in Columbia, Houston County, AL, Frank was the beloved son of the late William Gatlin Hinson and Mary Gladys Smart Hinson.
A man defined by integrity, kindness, and generosity, Frank touched countless lives through his loving spirit and radiant smile. In 1957, he graduated from Jordan Vocational High School and soon after married the love of his life, Joan Kimbro, on December 24, 1959. Their loving union spanned 65 joyous years, blessed with lasting memories and a devoted daughter, Kimberly Hinson Peacock.
Frank was drafted in 1961 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the 4th US Army Missile Command in Korea and the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, TX. He was honorably discharged in 1963.
He dedicated 32 years as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1997, and was a 50-year Gold Card Member of the National Letter Carriers Association.
He then served 13 years as a Funeral Assistant with Striffler Hamby Mortuary.
His spiritual devotion led him to be a long-time member of Hunter Road Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and actively involved in the senior adult Sunday school, and the Prime Timers senior adults.
He was an avid motorcyclist and raced dirt bikes with the Broken Spokes Motorcycle Club. He was also a vintage car enthusiast, owning a 1936 Ford. His hobbies included fishing, baseball, and watching World War II movies. Frank was passionate about football, especially being related to the head coach of the University of Georgia football team, which gave him great joy.
Frank was preceded in death by his grandson, L.D. Carson David Peacock.
He is deeply mourned by and survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Kimbro Hinson, daughter Kimberly Hinson Peacock (David), brother Mickey Hinson (Sandra), two grandchildren Brandon Franklin Peacock (Brianna) and Whitney Brook Peacock (Shelby), and three great grandchildren Braylee Nicole Peacock, Brynn Carson Peacock, and Winter Ray-Morrison Peacock and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Hunter Road Baptist Church, 1803 Hunter Road, Cataula, GA with visitation at 10:00 am and funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment follows at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA

The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the doctors and nurses at Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside Hospital, and heartfelt thanks extended to the Columbus Hospice team who went above and beyond to provide peace, comfort, support, and dignity during Frank’s final days.
