Mr. Murrah was born on October 27, 1934 to the late William Nolan Murrah, Sr. and Mary Lee Murrah in Columbus, GA. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and later Harvard School of Law. Mr. Murrah worked with Royal Crown Cola as the corporate attorney from 1961 to 1986 in three locations, Columbus, Atlanta and Miami Beach, FL. He was voted by the Jaycees as Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1970 and was a past member of the Columbus Urban League. Mr. Murrah was very active in all aspects of Republican Party Politics, having served in such capacities as Chairman of the Muscogee County Republican Party and the Republican National Committee from 1972 to 1976. He was also a member of the committee that helped write the new charter for the Columbus Consolidated Government in the early 1970's.
Mr. Murrah was also active with Wynnton School and helping them attain Charter School status and becoming Wynnton Arts Academy. He was honored for his patronage by having one of their gymnasiums named after him. Mr. Murrah was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann Murrah.
