She is survived by her husband of 46 years Marvin R. Dean, children Philip Miles (Mary), Douglas Miles, Terry (Clarence) Brison, and Ray (Diana) Dean. Also surviving are grandchildren, John Miles, Jared Miles, Cora Brison, Cameron (Whitney) Brison, Leelynn Dean, and Samantha (Shane) Peterson. Great-Grandchildren Maverick Brison, and Dean Peterson. She is also survived by her brother Marion “Sonny” (Patty) Gillaspy, nieces Gisele (Troy) Coffman, and Nicole (Brian) Sturgill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Marion and Dorothy Prather, and Fred and Margaret Gillaspy, and her Uncle Marion “Shorty” (Wilma) Prather.
She was an Eastern Star member for over 50 years. She earned the Grand Cross of Color for the Rainbow Girls of Columbus in the 1960’s. This is the highest honor that The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls can bestow for service. She volunteered at various churches as an organist and pianist. She was a member of Jonesville Christian Church.
She worked as an office manager for several years at Hiles & Broyer Insurance Agency. She could also be seen making slaw and serving tenderloin sandwiches at her uncle’s restaurant, Shorty’s Lunch.
Barbara will be missed by all of her many family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jonesville Christian Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Graveside service, open to family and friends, will be officiated by Pastor Marvin Wright and Pastor Luke Erb at 11:00 a.m. on Friday November 15, 2024, at Garland Brook Cemetery.
