Barbara Ellen Shumaker

She was born August 13, 1929, to William and Fannie (Burris) Gabbard, who preceded her in death. Barbara was a devoted homemaker whose greatest joy in life was caring for her family. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and the many cherished memories they created together.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Halbert Shumaker, and her daughter, Brenda Shumaker.

Barbara is survived by her loving daughters, Beverly Kinser of Columbus and Peggy Ward-Thompson of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Dena (Chris) Salinas, Kari Kinser, Brandon (Amy) Shumaker, all of Columbus, and Matthew Ward of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Whitney (Brett) Purdue, Chaz Berger, and Benjamin Kinser-Sapp; and great-great-grandchildren, Halliey, Ethan, Gabriel, Cainan, Remington, and Karter.

Friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Myers-Reed Chapel. A private graveside service will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery, where Barbara will be laid to rest.
