He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, August 24, 1947, the son of
Herschel N. and Emily A. Settles Kelley.
Charlie married P. Jill Jones on August 20, 1975 in Columbus. She survives.
He graduated from Columbus High School and attended Indiana
University. Charlie had worked at Cummins Engine Company and Uniplast.
He was a Vietnam veteran, serving as top secret intelligence and
telecommunications operator.
Charlie was an avid reader and enjoyed playing golf and nature walks.
He is survived by his wife, and his mother, Emily A. Kelley Mabe, both
of Columbus; a brother, James M. Kelley of California; step-brothers,
Don (Rebecca) Mabe Jr., of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Gary (Cindy)
Mabe of Yorba Linda, Calif.; step-sisters, Vickie (Ben) Miller of San
Diego, Calif., and Linda (Victor) Naverro of Mesa, Ariz.; nieces, Jill
(Chris) Bishop of Ft. Wayne, Amy Rudolph of Cincinnati, Ohio, and
Heidi (Mike) Bickham of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; several cousins, and
his faithful K-9 friends, Sadie and Cleo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herschel N. Kelley; his
step-father, Don E. Mabe; and his beloved K-9 hiking buddy, Asa.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday
at Hathaway-Myers Chapel, 1022 Pearl St.
Graveside inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Garland Brook Cemetery.
