OBITUARY

CHARLES N SIENER

West Lafayette, IN - Charles “Charlie” Norman “Nornie” Siener, age 87 passed away at 3:55 a.m. on February 8, 2020 at the Indiana Veterans Home. Charlie was born July 16, 1932 in North Vernon Indiana, son of the late Helen and Art Siener. Charlie was a senior prom king and 1951 North Vernon High School graduate. Charlie served in the Navy during the Korean War. After discharge from the Navy, Charlie married Cynthia (Cindy) Carl in 1958 and moved to Columbus IN. where his former spouse survives. Surviving children are, Carol (Jon (deceased)) Bennett of Ft. Wayne, IN, David (Jan) Siener of Clarkston, MI, Mary Ann Howard of Franklin OH, and Chris (Patty) Siener of Lafayette IN as well as nine grandchildren (Chris Howard, Mike Howard, Brandon Bennett, Brett Bennett, Matt Siener, Thomas Siener, Sara Siener, Patrick Siener, and Danika Siener) and one great grandchild (Anna Howard). Charlie was also preceded in death by siblings, Tom (Rita)Siener, Claire Louis (Frank) Laugh, Joe Siener (Rita survives). Surviving is his sister Barbara (Maurice) Diekhoff. Charlie worked at Kroger Grocery before joining the Navy. After his tour of duty, Charlie was a barber, then worked at Arvin in Columbus IN before his retirement. Charlie has spent his last years under the loving care of the Indiana Veterans Home staff. Charlie had a love of gardening, fishing, golfing, taking a drive, attending sporting events of his children, playing 500 rummy, and visiting with family and friends. Charlie also enjoyed going down to camp with family and his dog Katie, and enjoyed getting lost on Sunday afternoon drives. Charlie quite enjoyed his Northern Atlantic travels in the Navy, being a member of the American Legion, the afternoon bingo with fellow veterans at the Veterans home, and his celebration of mass at St. Columba, St Bartholomew, and later at the Veterans Home. Charlie had such a gracious heart and always could find the calm in the storm. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing Nornie! Visitations will be held at Myers~Reed funeral home in Columbus IN on Wednesday from 10:00am until 11:30am EST. Funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Chris Wadelton officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery and lunch to follow graveside service at Myers-Reed Chapel.
