Doris was born May 24, 1941, in Spruce Pine, Alabama, the daughter of Horace L. and Carrie M. (Bray) Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Throughout her life, Doris valued family, friendship, and the time spent with those she loved. She especially looked forward to visits from her family, and she shared a very special bond with her sister, Norma. Those simple moments together brought Doris great happiness and remained among the things she treasured most.
Doris was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a past Worthy Matron. She was also a former member of the Columbus Moose Lodge and enjoyed the friendships and fellowship she found through both organizations.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Nina (Ted) Piatt of Fort Mill, SC; son, Timothy Perry of Columbus; sister, Norma Raines of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Nicholas (Maria) Piatt of Hermosa Beach, CA, Alexander (Lauran) Piatt of Charlotte, NC, Brandon Perry of Indianapolis, Nikkia Perry of Greenwood, and Anna Marie Perry, Kaitlyn Perry, and Robert Perry, all of Columbus. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Perry; son, Bobby Perry; and brothers, Eugene and Carroll Thompson.
A Celebration of Doris' Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Myers-Reed Chapel with the Rev. Al White officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Inurnment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Doris will be remembered for the love she had for her family, the relationships she cherished, and the many memories she leaves with those who knew and loved her.
