

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Romine, 73, of Columbus, her son, Keith Romine and his wife Tanya, both 71 and also of Columbus, her daughter, Diana Romine, 67, of Saugatuck, Michigan and three grandchildren; Leslie Davidson Young of Indianapolis, Joel Davidson of Austin, Texas and Claire Romine of Columbus. Also living is a cousin, Bonnie Kiefer of Rhode Island, and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on November 3, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Edna Austin. She was the eldest of four sisters. Her parents, her sisters and, her husband Paul, to whom she was married for 72 years, preceded her in death, as did a granddaughter, Kathryn Davidson.
Doris loved singing and belonged to many choruses, quartets and church choirs, and to the Sweet Adeline Barbershop singers. She was a member of the Junior Minerva Reading Club, in which she held numerous offices, the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, the Toastmistress Club, and the American Society of Business Women. When her children were young, she served as leader or assistant to Girl Scout, Brownie and Cub Scout troops. She loved to cook and play bridge. She made numerous quilts and loved crafts, oil painting, gardening, canning and preserving She also collected cookbooks. In recent years she enjoyed playing games on the computer, writing poetry and communicating with friends and loved ones by e-mail.
She worked at Irwin Union in Columbus in Human Resources, Collections, and Home Mortgage Departments for seven years, and at Cummins Engine in the Transportation, Human Resources and Law Departments for 13 years. She retired from Cummins in 1990.
During World War II she taught Shorthand and Commercial English at Summers College of
Commerce in East St. Louis. She was a Secretary and Clerk for the Missouri Pacific Railroad (commonly called MoPac "First Railroad in the West") for 17 years before moving to Columbus when Union Starch promoted Paul to its home office in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Myers-Reed Chapel with Rev. Alex Fahie officiating. Entombment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will also be at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service.
