

Franklin
Dorothy M. Reese, 91 of Franklin, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Saturday,
October 1, 2011 at Franklin United Methodist Community Health Center.
Dorothy was born May 10, 1920 and grew up in Indianapolis. On July 11,
1943 she married Herbert J. Reese. She was a graduate of Butler
University and received a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana
University. Following graduation from Butler University (cum laude),
she began her career as a high school English teacher. Subsequently,
she taught English and journalism in various schools, including George
Washington High School in Indianapolis, Wayne Township School and
Northside Middle School in Columbus, Indiana until her retirement in
1974 when she moved to Tallahassee, Florida.
In Tallahassee, she formed new friendships, became enmeshed in
activities related to Florida State University and traveled the world
with her husband. Five years ago, Dorothy moved into the Franklin
United Methodist Community in Franklin, where she quickly established
many new friendships, became an active volunteer, including
establishing the first writing group. Dorothy was an avid reader,
loved to travel and a talented freelance writer, who authored her
first novel at 80 years of age.
Dorothy loved people and treated all with caring and kindness. Her
positive attitude and zest for life were an inspiration to everyone.
She was deeply loved and cherished by her family and friends and will
be greatly missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Reese on
December 21, 1993; a sister, Mary Bishop in 2004; and a granddaughter,
Sarah E. Forster on November 24, 1993. She is survived by her
children, Ronald J. (Candy) Reese of Franklin, Patricia (William)
Doody of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Chad (Christen) Forster, Megan
(Enrique) Morales, Brennan (Staci) Reese, Jeremy (Candace) Reese and
Carrie (David) Voyczy; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev.
David Owens officiating at Myer-Reed Chapel on 25th St. Calling will
be from 9 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Garland
Brook Mausoleum. A memorial service will be held later at Franklin
United Methodist Community Chapel.
