

Dorothy Jean Vautaw, 89, of Columbus, passed away in peace to be with our Lord on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, her family was the center of her life.
Born Dorothy Jean Buxton on September 28, 1925, in Columbus, she was the third of the four daughters of Clarence Albert Buxton and Chloe Denny Buxton. She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School and graduated from Columbus High School in 1943. She was active in high school as a cheerleader, Prom Queen, Navy Queen and various other clubs.
Dorothy graduated in 1946 from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and worked at Bartholomew County Hospital for several years afterward.
On July 4, 1948, she married Robert L. Vautaw in Columbus, becoming a housewife and mother and raising three sons, Brian, Brent and Mark.
She was fun to be with, was part of a supper club with close friends for many years, was active with Garden Club and was a member of Harrison Lake Country Club and Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, Florida, for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Robert, who died July 17, 2010; sisters Betty Snyder of Southport, Indiana, and Charlotte Eddy of Ocala, Florida; and grandson, Trevor Vautaw.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Brian (Lisa) of Beverly Hills, Michigan, Brent (Cindi) of Noblesville, Indiana, and Mark (Lonnie) of Columbus; grandchildren, Bob (Jeanne) Vautaw, Brooke (Karl) Borquist, Michael (Bonnie) Vautaw, Laura Vautaw, Julie (Caleb) Austel, Katie Vautaw and Jake Vautaw; eight great-grandchildren; her youngest sister, Alberta (Jerry) Carvin, Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday.
