I have been thinking about Douglas and his family since his passing last summer. He was a kind and gentle man who helped me whenever I asked. I worked with him at ANTHC since 2004 and I can't count how many times he helped me generate data reports!  I always kidded him about retirement and sadly the last time I asked him, he said he was retiring next year.  Though, I think he really enjoyed the work he did and helping others.  I will always remember him and aspire to be as kind as he was. My prayers have been with his family and continue to be.

So sorry to have learned about the passing of my cousin Doug Garrett. I visited with him a few times while I was in graduate school back in the early 1980s. He was a really good guy and I'm gonna miss him.

So sad for the loss of my nephew Douglas Garrett. Felt he was more like a little brother growing up since I was 4 years older. My thoughts and sympathy is with his siblings.

I am Douglas's uncle Aubrey Durbin, he was the oldest of my nephews & its been several years since I last saw him, I was working in Southwest Georgia and in the mid 90's was sent to Indiana for some training on an antenna system at Crain Indiana but since there were no Motels there I had to get a Motel room in Bloomington near where Douglas lived so I was able to visit with him and his friend Judy on 3 separate evenings and I enjoyed our time together he had such a diverse computer background and one of the evenings that I had visited him he took me to his office since he had some work to accomplish before going back to his home for dinner, I will certainly miss him.

Throughout the 70's communal shared living and decades of friendship since then, Doug was like a brother to all his Bloomington friends. We were welcomed like family at the Garrett home on Grandview Lake.  Doug chose mentors from our community, like Paul Goodman, a local woodworker, and Bill Gosser, our former landlord/retired teacher; both mentors were wise, kind and generous.  By their example, Doug became a self-taught electrician and computer programmer.  He was a self-made man, and we admired Doug for that.  Doug's photography was special, evidenced by his exhibit here last October.  Doug made his own path in life, and his help and influence will always be fondly remembered by us all.  Our condolences go to his family.

Doug was a good friend and mentor, I am greatly saddened by his loss.  My prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

What a great man and friend! Doug always was willing to help out and always had an antiquated adage or two to brighten up your day. My condolences to his family.

I have worked with Doug... who I called fondly "Sir Douglas" in Alaska for close to 10 years... He was always willing to assist and had a witty sense of humor...  He has touched many lives and helped many more. My condolences for your loss.

I was shocked and saddened by Doug's sudden passing. I have worked with Doug for the past ten years at ANTHC.  He was my favorite programming resource and helped me more times than I can count. I will really miss him. My condolences to those close to him in Bloomington. May his soul rest in peace.

I am so crushed by Doug's passing.  Although we haven't seen each other since High School, old band member friends from CHS share a pretty close bond and common history.  I was so much looking forward to reconnecting with him once Phyllis and I got back to Columbus next Spring.  We shared so many good times with other guys in the band, working on his 1950 Ford rebuild, sneaking a frosty beverage in his basement on occasion, watching his Dad build the Grandview house, just hanging out with our group and like other young people, wondering about the future.  I will miss him.

So sad to learn you left this earth too soon Doug. We were so looking forward to becoming great neighbors. From just the few moments we talked, I could already feel your warmth as a really unique and cool dude. Thanks for your service as a soldier during Viet nam.

We were so sad to learn of Doug's passing. We have been friends since the early 70s and will forever remember "buzz-snack electric," his voracious appetite for chocolate chip cookies and ability to show up at justs the right time to get some, and his very wide circle of friends and acquaintances during his time in Bloomington.
