

Nellie retired in 1988 from Cummins Engine Company. She was a lifelong member of Columbus First Assembly of God.
She enjoyed gardening and canning her harvests to provide for her family. She was a wonderful mother figure, rearing five generations of children, grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and loved working in her flower gardens and reading her bible.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Columbus First Assembly of God on 10th Street, with Pastors Rick Glowacki and Donald P. Andreasen officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Columbus 1st Assembly of God or Autism Association.

Born in Columbus April 15, 1921, Nellie was the daughter of Thomas and Amanda Herron Wells. She married John R. Palmer Nov. 21, 1947, in Columbus. He preceded her in death June 5, 1993.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Hazley, Bellingham, WA, Sadie (David) Cress, Columbus, Mandy Beier, Hope, Nancy Palmer and Vickie Garrett, both of Scipio, Trudy (Bill) Zimmerman, Columbus, and Rhonda (James) Davis of Ohio; sons, Fred (Stella) Jackson, Oklahoma, Duain (Pamela) Palmer, North Vernon, Jerry Ray (Marsha) Palmer and Todd Palmer, both of Columbus; 36 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and several half brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughters, Evelyn Eddleman and Patsy Barrix; sons, Chester Leroy Jackson and Larry Jay Palmer; two grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; and four half brothers and sisters.
