Gladys Ruth Gates, 89, passed away Thursday, August 15 at 1:05 a.m. at Four Seasons Healthcare. Gladys was born March 14, 1930 in Bartholomew County, the daughter of Perry and Martha Howard. She married Dale Gates on December 1, 1979 after a courtship of many years. She was a former employee of CP Electronics and retired from Cummins where she was Manager of Vehicle Engineering Support. She was a faithful member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and served on the Stewardship Committee. She was also a former member of The American Business Women's Association and served as past president. In 1955, she was the Women's City Course Golf Champion. Gladys enjoyed gardening, boating, golfing, attending auctions, traveling with her husband and entertaining friends and colleagues in her home. A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys will be held Tuesday, August 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis presiding. Entombment will follow at Garland Brook Mausoleum. Visitation will be held Monday, August 19 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. There will be an additional visitation one hour prior to service time at the church. Gladys is survived by her niece, Colleen Coleman and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale Gates; her sisters, Katherine Bragg, Agnes Wilson, Mabel Ayers, and Mary Howard; her brothers, Francis Howard, Clarence "Bud" Howard, and her twin brother, Donald Howard. Memorial donations in Gladys' name may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.myers-reed.com.
