Harold E. Ballman
June 18, 1930 – April 3, 2012

Harold E. Ballman, 81, of Columbus, died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Ballman, a graduate of Monument City High School in Tipton, retired after 45 years with Taylor Brothers Construction Company. He was a 60-year member of Carpenters Union No. 1775 and a member of the F.O.P., the American Legion, River Rats and numerous camping clubs.
He loved spending time at his farm, “Sanity Acres,” and having his friends out. A veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/43rd Combat Engineers, he served during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan for 14 months.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Mark Hammel officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hospice of South Central Indiana, the American Cancer Society or the National Parkinson Foundation.
Born in Tipton June 18, 1930, Mr. Ballman was the son of John F. and Flora C. Brodbeck Ballman. He married Barbara R. Nugent Nov. 22, 1953, in Westport. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Linda Ballman and her husband Stewart Vickers of Terre Haute, IN, Troy (Robin) Ballman and Mark (Shari) Ballman of Columbus; grandchildren, Travis (Sarah) Ballman, Ryan, Tyler and Jeremy Ballman of Columbus, Daniel and Jennifer Ballman of Eastern, KY; a great-grandson, Grant Ballman; three stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Howard and Charles Ballman.
