Harold Robert "Bob" Rider

Harold Robert “Bob” Rider, 79, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at Kindred Hospital South at Greenwood. Bob was born May 23,1936, in Rush County, the son of Harold and Gladys McCorkle Rider. He married Karen Miller at Spiceland on June 29, 1958, and she survives. He was a 1954 graduate of Milroy High School, was a member of FFA, played basketball and ran track during his school years. In his younger life, Bob worked on the family farm until going to work at Cummins Engine Company in 1968. He retired in 1998 after 30 years of service. He had been a driver for Quinco, now Centerstone, enjoyed basketball, baseball and football. His favorite teams were the Colts, Reds and Pacers. Bob also enjoyed fishing, walks in the woods and mushroom hunting. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, board member of Eastside Community Center and was of the Baptist faith. Among Bob’s survivors are his wife, Karen Miller Rider of Columbus; children, Jo (Jim) Kaler of Clifford, Charlie (Ava) Rider of Columbus, and Anna (Greg) Barwick of North Vernon; grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Kaler of Trafalgar, Caleb Kaler of Clifford, Dylan (Taylor) Barwick of DuPont, Washington, Nikki Barwick of Peru, Zachary Barwick of North Vernon, and Chase Rider of Columbus; and great grandchildren, Brantlee and Gavan Kaler, Columbus, Amelia Kaler, Trafalgar, Krissalyn Greeno, Kokomo, and Jack Baker, Trafalgar. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel, Columbus, with Brother Glenn Poynter officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p. m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday. In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation is planned with private inurnment at a later date.
