Helena Ellen Sharpnack

Helen was born in Dublin, Ireland, to James and Rosina Carroll. In the 1950s, she immigrated with her best friend from Ireland to Canada, where she lived close to her sister, Rosaline “Rose”, and Rose's husband, George. Her journey eventually brought her to the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she met her future husband, John Sharpnack.

Helen and John were married on December 26, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio. They lived briefly in Washington, D.C. before settling in Columbus, Indiana, where they made their home in the Sharpnack family house on Harrison Lakes — the place they would call home for more than 60 years.

Helen was an active and devoted member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church serving many years involved in the St. Bartholomew School and library.

Helen was active in many local groups for which she found great joy including The Columbus Shakespeare Club, The Cosmopolitan Club and the local Garden Club.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Sharpnack (2024). Daughter of the late James and Rosina Carroll (Ireland). Beloved sister to Rosaline Marshall and husband George (Canada), Paddy Carroll (Australia), Jimmy Carroll and wife Sheila (England), Veine Maguire, Claire Kelleher and husband Reggie, Margaret Jordon, Mona Newman and husband Paul, all of Ireland.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosanne Sharpnack, her son, Christopher Sharpnack, and grandson, Trent Sparks. She also leaves behind her sister, Mona, of Dublin, Ireland; her sister-in-law, June Carroll, of Australia; her nephew, Kevin Marshall, and his wife, Beth, of Canada; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews across Canada, Ireland, England, and Australia, along with many dear friends in Columbus and elsewhere across the United States.

Helen was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing she is once again with her beloved John.
