

Mr. Chestnut was born in Daviess County on July 2, 1931, the son of Ira B. and Lena Bolding Chestnut. He married Marlene Olson in Terre Haute on April 26, 1958 and she survives.
He earned a B.S. and Masters Degree from Indiana State University with further studies at Indiana University.
Mr. Chestnut was a former Social Studies teacher and counselor at Central and Northside Junior High Schools. He was a ninth grade basketball coach and athletic director at both schools. He was a referee for basketball and football and a baseball umpire. He left teaching in 1970 to become a self employed realtor and builder.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and a former member of Metropolitan Exchange Club. He also served in the United States Army.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Chestnut is survived by daughters, Susan (Scott) Rust, Karen (Rod) Wilson, Sharon (Jason) Newton, all of Columbus, Cheryl (Craig) Hendrix of Indianapolis and Janet (Kevin) Richards of Dublin, Ohio; sisters, Linda (Bernie) Osmon of Plainville and Rita (Jerry) Hawkins of Sullivan; grandchildren, Evan Rust, Brandt and Drew Hendrix, Carson, Carlee and Camille Richards, Reid and Claire Wilson and Megan and Molly Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gregory Bryan Chestnut.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Calling will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
