

James Ernest Chaplin was born February 5, 1932 in Glasgow, Kentucky the son of Charlie T and Margaret E. (Gassaway) Chaplin. He died 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Inpatient Facility. He married Dorothy Louise Yates May 25, 1951 at First Christian Church by Rev. T.K. Smith; she preceded him in death July 21, 1994.
He is survived by a loving companion and best friend of 18 years Alta Satterfield; Sons, Dennis James (Janice) Chaplin of Columbus, Douglas Lee (Lisa) Chaplin of Columbus, Walter (Terri) Satterfield of Columbus; Grandchildren, Joshua James (Samantha) Chaplin, Christopher James Chaplin, Melissa Louise (Michael) Harvey, Suzannah Rena Chaplin, Kurtis James Chaplin, Jeremiah Douglas Chaplin, Isaiah Paris (Katie Keith) Chaplin, Emily (Albert) Nolting, Erika (Gabe) Miller; 15 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Zachariah Aaron Chaplin in 2008.
He retired after 42 years from Stadler Meat Packing Company where he was a boiler room technician. He was a member of First Christian Church, lifetime member of Columbus Eagles and a former member of American Legion. He was an accomplished guitar player, loved to travel and play pool.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday Myers~Reed Chapel on 25t Street with Al White officiating. Calling 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. Monday to Service time. Burial Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or First Christian Church.
