Lisa Burkhead Cottingham, age 61, passed away January 12, 2019 in Indianapolis after a long battle with cancer. She was born June 26, 1957 in Monroe, Indiana to Loren and Doris Burkhead. A 1975 graduate of Adams Central High School, she went on to graduate from Indiana University with her Bachelor of Arts in History and then received her MBA at the University of Arizona. She married Gary Louis Cottingham on March 31, 1988. Together, they had one daughter, Lauren Anne and one son, Grant Louis. Lisa worked for many years in public finance in Indianapolis, retiring as the Executive Director of the Indiana Bond Bank. Called to ministry, Lisa attended seminary, graduating with her Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in 2015. She and her husband Gary moved to Columbus, Indiana, where she became the associate pastor of First United Methodist Church of Columbus. In May of 2018, she became an ordained United Methodist minister, accomplishing a lifelong dream. Lisa enjoyed reading, traveling, history, and her close friendships with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Gary of 30 years, her daughter Lauren, and her son Grant. Lisa was a true witness to the Lord’s kindness and faithfulness. She will be deeply missed by all of those who loved and knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, Indiana and will be used for the ecumenical hot meals program, an outreach ministry that was Lisa’s favorite. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street and from 10:00 a.m. Saturday to service time at the church.
