Mary C. Dickey

Mary C. Dickey, 90, of Columbus IN died November 11, 2022. She was born in Columbus, IN on April 24, 1932, to Emma Berry and Carl Swartzkopf Kollmeyer. She was raised by her Aunt Katharine Kollmeyer beginning at the age of 8. She attended St. Bartholomew Catholic school grades 5th-9th. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1950, and St. Vincent School of Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1953. She was a lifetime member of St. Vincent Alumnae Association and Psi Iota Xi sorority.

Mary began working for the Bartholomew County Hospital as a nurse in 1953. She devoted herself to endless shifts and exceptional care for her patients, retiring twice and for the final time in November of 2005.

Mary enjoyed spending retirement with her husband at Lake Thunderbird in Cherokee Village, AR. She was a fierce card player, especially loving bridge and euchre. She also enjoyed volunteering and was compassionate about animal care. She loved watching tennis, Purdue basketball, and caring for her many Cocker Spaniels she had throughout her years. Mary was very devout in her faith.

Mary especially loved her family. She attended all her children’s extracurricular activities and sports and was their biggest and loudest fan.

Mary was proceeded in death by her husband George and her eldest daughter Terry.

She is survived by her children Kevin Dickey of Columbus, Kathy (Jeff) Toburen of Columbus and Chris (Tammy) Dickey of Olive Branch MS. Grandchildren Cari (Dustin) Renner, Samantha (Doug) Haskins, Andrew and Aaron Cunningham. Courtney (Jared) Cox, Matt (Kaylan) Dickey and Lindsay Dickey. Great- Grandchildren, Maggie and Henry Renner, Harper Cox and Sullivan Haskins.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church Saturday, January 7th at 11:00am with visiting from 10:00am till the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South-Central Indiana or the Humane Society.
