

Mary Lou Washler, 97, of Columbus went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Silver Oaks Health Campus. She was born in Muncie, Indiana on July 17, 1929, the daughter of the late Guy and Sarah Phipps. She married Rev. John M. Washler, Sr. on August 5, 1949.
Mary Lou retired from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation where she worked in the Administration office. Music was a lifelong joy of hers. She was a talented musician and she enjoyed playing the piano, organ, saxophone, and accordion. She was a dedicated Christian and was active in the Assembly of God Church from a very young age, including twenty-five years as a pastor’s wife.
Above all else she cherished her family, friends, and church. She is survived by her loving children, Judith Pleasant of Lebanon, John (Jean Ann) Washler, Jr. of Edinburgh and Janett (Dan) Lancaster of Columbus; grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Erika, Amber, April, Rebecca, Amanda, Angela, Brittany and Kevin, and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, son-in-law Donald Pleasant and her Aunt Effie Phipps.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Myers-Reed Chapel with Kevin Pleasant and Monty Stetler officiating. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at the Indiana Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
