Hearing of your passing Nyangu is extremely sad!! My childhood story would never be complete without you being my neighbor. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. May you rest in Gods perfect peace.

Though we are grieving we celebrate your life and know the heavens has gained. Your infectious spirit touched many and will always remember the memories we shared with you while on this earth. The days of our youth fellowship and praise and worship at church will always be remembered. MYSCRIP 🙏🏾

A Tribute to My Dear Friend, Melissa

Today, as we lay my dear friend Melissa to rest, my heart is filled with both sadness and gratitude.

I met Melissa in the second semester of 2020, when we became roommates. I never knew then that I was meeting someone who would become such an important part of my life. What began as sharing a room grew into a beautiful friendship that I will always treasure.

Melissa was beautiful—not only in appearance, but also in the way she carried herself. She was humble, carefree, and genuine. She was not a person who enjoyed gossip or unnecessary drama. She simply lived her life in her own beautiful way.

And, of course, anyone who knew Melissa knew that cooking and cleaning were not exactly her favourite things to do. She came from a family where there were chefs and maids, so those things were never really her concern. That was Melissa—beautiful, carefree, and unapologetically herself. Those little things that made her who she was are now memories I will hold close to my heart.

Melissa was there for me through so many seasons of my life. She saw me through marriage, through having my children, through divorce, and through some of the most difficult financial struggles I faced. She was there during different chapters of my life, and even when life took her to Canada, the distance did not take away our friendship.

She continued to visit Zambia, and whenever she came, it was always special. Our friendship remained. She was someone who had been part of my journey for many years, and I will always be grateful that our paths crossed.

Melissa, you fought a long and difficult battle with cancer. I know the journey was not easy, but today, we choose to remember your life—not only the illness that took you from us.

We remember your beauty.
We remember your humility.
We remember your carefree spirit.
We remember your laughter, your friendship, and the memories we shared.

My Dearest baby sister Nyangu. A loving ever smiling person. Gentle and very respectful.  It's heartbreaking that you left too soon just after we reconnected.

I never imagined that one day I would be writing this.,and its sad knowing this is the last time I will get to say something to you. When I heard it first, I was in shock, but it sunk in when I called and you didn't pick up. You always did, I knew then it was true. This pic..We all have fond memories of this day, the nshima we ate, the laughter, the stories and of course your favourite thing; swimming. Seeing Miki in the water, swimming so confidently(and leaving the boys far behind.)  reminded me of the times, when no one could best you at that. I told you then how she was swimming just like you.. I still remember how proud you were to see her do move so fast and how you later directed the boys to make sure they swam all year. They listened and we have to thank you for that. It's heartbreaking knowing they will no more calls or chats about have you checked Costco?, laughs about Christmas trees in Feb or that phrase "Pepe one day you will learn to do your own hair" - oh Mel, you would probably laugh if you saw me right now! We will always remain grateful for your kind heart, your thoughtfulness, how we laughed and just overall the time we spent with you. Our hearts go out to Miki, Nana and the rest of the family. Miki - a very big hug to you princess, we are praying and wishing you God's comfort through this trying time.

Nyangu Phiri my classmate and deskmate as we attended primary school together at ZCCM Chingola Trust School back then. The best breaststroke swimmer. Always winning house points for Kudu house. My forever fond memory is how she'd drag us all to the deep end of the pool then we'd b pulling on to her to bring us back to safer waters, pushing us all to become good swimmers... It's hard to believe you're gone. Rest easy dearest.

He love for music, an amazing voice she had

Melissa I will deeply miss you, your death hurts and the only comfort is the message you sent me on 12th June,2026 to say," see you in heaven" . I started mourning this loss while you were still sick when I saw it was taking longer than expected for you to heal. I am hurt and bruised because even through your pain you made it a point to update me on how you were feeling. 2004 is when I met you, just hearing from school mates that Jen you have a hot roommate, we bonded well ours wasn't about gossip or pretense. You are the one I told my deepest secrets to, you fought my court. battles from miles away sending me help your friends and lawyers. I know I can't question God, even when mum passed you would always be there messages , calls,always making sure I was Ok. I am broken,I tried to be strong but my strength has failed me. I love you and miss you deeply Mel.

Fondest memories are the 6th and 7th grade afternoons. We would spend hours in the pool after school and the steak pies we ate made in your kitchen …. I remember a girl with an infectious smile on her face …even at that young age always friendly and welcoming . Never had dull moments goofing around. Saying bye to you at such a young age is truly a heavy loss.

May the Lord comfort those dear to you. In faith this is not good bye but  until we meet again.

Nyangu, that is what my family knew you by.
We met in Grade 6, and from the very beginning, you became more than just a friend. You patiently taught me how to swim from scratch, even inviting me to your home for extra lessons. Your kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others came naturally to you.
Some of my fondest memories are our trips to Ibenga Girls during Grades 8 and 9. Riding to school and back always felt like being with family. In fact, you became such a household name in our home that when we received the heartbreaking news of your passing, my mother was overcome with sadness and tears. That is how much you meant to us all.
You were a simple, humble person who embraced everyone regardless of their status or background. You had a way of making people feel valued, welcomed, and appreciated. The kindness you showed to others left a lasting impression on everyone whose life you touched.
Thank you for being such a wonderful friend during our school years. The memories we shared are treasures.
Earlier this year, we reconnected, and little did I know that our conversation would be both a catch-up and a farewell. Looking back, I am grateful that we had that opportunity to reconnect, even if I never imagined it would be our last.
May you rest in eternal peace, my dear friend. May the Lord comfort and bless your family with the same love, kindness, and generosity that you gave to others.

My sincere condolences to the family on Nyangu's passing. May God comfort you all during such a trying time. No words can express the loss you all feel, especially for someone so young.

She will be fondly remembered for her exceptional swimming skills, which were legendary during the ZCCM Trust school era. We were blessed to have her on our team at Luanshya Trust School in the 6th and 7th grades. Her generosity will be cherished.
