Priscilla J. “Pat” McChesney, 96, of Columbus, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, just one day before her 97th birthday. Pat was born April 7, 1929, in Evanston, IL, as Priscilla Jean Thornhill. She was the second of six children and the granddaughter of a Civil War veteran.
In 1948 she married Robert Coppert. That marriage ended early and in 1969 she married Richard (Dick) McChesney with whom she spent the next thirty years. Together, she and Dick founded and operated a business dealing in automotive bearings in Charlotte, NC. Among their customers were several prominent NASCAR teams of the 1980’s. She also worked as a costume seamstress for the local opera company.
She was an avid tennis fan. Pat also enjoyed traveling, first with Dick, and later with her younger brother and youngest sister. Pat moved to Columbus in 2012 to be near her son and his family.
In 2023, Pat moved into the Four Seasons Retirement Community where she and her family felt particularly welcomed by the Four Seasons Chapel. She transitioned to skilled care nursing until she passed peacefully in her sleep at age 96 years, 364 days.
A memorial service to honor Pat’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Four Seasons Chapel with Pastor Karen Hargett officiating. She will be laid to rest at Salisbury National Cemetery next to Dick.
