Richard Gregory “Greg” Rich, 69, Columbus, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 5, 2014. Born in Chicago on July 16, 1945, Greg was raised in River Grove, Illinois; moved to Indianapolis as a teenager; resided briefly in Marietta, Georgia; and eventually settled in Columbus with his adored late wife, Mary Beth (“Betsy”). He had served proudly as a jet engine mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, 1965-68, with station assignments including New Mexico and Guam. Maintaining a lifelong fascination with jet engines and auto mechanics, Greg had been employed early in his career with Cummins Inc. and later worked for and retired from Nagakura Engineering Works Company. He was working part-time with Renner Motors at the time of his passing, happily driving Hondas between destinations. Genial, jovial, quick to tell a story and share a laugh, Greg was blessed with an unwavering belief in silver linings, brightening the lives of those he touched. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Mary Elizabeth (Albright) Rich; his parents H. Richard and Jean L. Rich; and his younger brother Clayton L. Rich. Survivors include sisters Penny (William) Paraskevas and Laura (Marlin) Wilson of Indianapolis; niece Kalaya Paraskevas; nephews Alex Paraskevas, Nick Wilson and Sam Wilson; and four grandnieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to share remembrances of Greg at a fellowship service on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel, Columbus; visitation two hours prior to the service.
