Born in Columbus to Laud and Irene (Hinkle) Webb, who preceded him in death, Robert lived a full life devoted to education, service, and community. A proud graduate of Columbus High School, he continued his academic journey at Franklin College for his undergraduate degree, later earning a Master’s degree from Indiana University. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue post-graduate studies at UCLA, LaVerne College, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Army with the 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he dedicated his career to teaching in Columbus, touching countless lives through his work in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation until his retirement.
A man of deep faith and civic involvement, Robert was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He remained active in numerous organizations, including the Columbus Retired Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Robert's passion for life extended well beyond the classroom. A lifelong traveler, he proudly visited all 50 U.S. states, as well as East Asia, Europe, Canada, and Mexico. He enjoyed reading, music, Indy Car racing, and cheering on his favorite basketball teams.
On December 11, 1954, he married the love of his life, Norma F. (Tellman) Webb. Together, they shared nearly 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2014. Robert is survived by his loving nieces, Cheryl and Janet Tellman.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Hathaway-Myers Chapel, with Rev. Tim Carter officiating. Entombment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Robert’s memory.
