Ruby L. Ferg, 76, former Columbus resident, passed from this world on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Heritage Park Health Care Center in Carbondale, Colorado where she had lived the past two years. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Ruby has joined her Loving Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Mrs. Ferg had moved from Columbus in 2011 to live with her daughter in Eagle, Colorado. She and her husband, Albert, were married in 1962 and started their family in Columbus with the birth of their son in 1964 and daughter in 1966. She moved to Yorktown, Indiana in 1969 but returned to Columbus when Albert retired in 1990.
Mrs. Ferg is survived by both children, Jeffery (Heidi) Ferg and Lisa (Ethan) Moore; two brothers, Kenneth (Bonnie) Arterburn and Charles Arterburn; two sisters, Ruth Payne and Sue (David) Hays; 12 grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews of both the Ferg and Arterburn families.
Mrs. Ferg was active in the Columbus “Home-Ec” club, as well as serving for many years in her church, Parkside Baptist in Columbus and Creekwood Baptist in Muncie where she taught young people and worked in the church’s nursing home ministry.
Upon retirement from Ball State University in 1990, she and her husband worked as construction project volunteers with a Baptist camping ministry, Campers On Mission, during annual RV trips to Florida and Arizona.
Born December 28, 1938, Ruby was the second oldest of five children of Raymond and Ermine (Payne) Arterburn. She worked diligently on her family farm near Flippin in Monroe County, KY, which delayed her graduation from Gamaiel High School a number of years. Upon graduation she attended Campbellsville College prior to marriage in Louisville, KY. She enjoyed caring for others, spending time with her family, cooking and travel, especially spending winters in Florida.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Myers-Reed Chapel in Columbus. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until service time. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial gifts to the Senior Care Christian Ministry of the Four Eagle Foundation in Eagle County, Colorado.
