Born on July 12, 1952, in Elkhart, Indiana, Ruth was the daughter of Howard and Lucille (Rose) Holdeman. They preceded her in death.
Ruth earned a Bachelor of Science degree, in Science, from Purdue University and devoted her professional life to various roles in human resources. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Ruth embraced life with enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure. She loved anything related to the water, including waterskiing, boating, and even spending time living aboard several houseboats. A talented crafter, she designed and taught papercraft techniques in several states, sharing her creativity with countless others. She also enjoyed reading, tackling complex jigsaw puzzles, and solving Sudoku puzzles.
Never one to shy away from new experiences, Ruth earned her motorcycle license and enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson. Music held a special place in her heart as well. She played both piano and organ and shared her voice through church choirs over the years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years, Steven G. Barnes of Columbus; and her sister, Rita (Ivars) Krauklis of Beaverton, Michigan.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Doug Bauman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
