Ruth O. Ferguson Deckard

Mrs. Deckard was born September 12, 1922 in Rush County, IN., the daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Florence (Hill) Ferguson.

She married William Ollen Deckard June 18, 1938 in Brown County, IN. and he preceded her in death on December 29, 1971.

Mrs. Deckard was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and listening to gospel music.

The funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Deckard will be conducted at 10:00 am Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St. with Pastor Lewis Burton officiating. Soloist will be Betty Groves with her husband, Vance Groves and Jimmy Bennett accompanying her on the guitar.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Friday and from 9:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday.

Burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marty Bowling, Larry Deckard, William Halfhide and Gary, Garrett and Jake Flatt.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Deckard may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Deckard is survived by two daughters, Janet (Leroy) Fiesbeck of Edinburgh, IN. and Retha (Warren) Goines of Shreveport, Louisiana; two sons, Bernie (Edie) Deckard of Emory, Texas and Ronald (Gloria) Deckard of Dunedin, Florida; a sister, Ruby Sankey of Terre Haute, IN.; a brother, Don Miller of Terre Haute, IN.; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Hilderbrand of Columbus, IN.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband of 32 years, Mrs. Deckard was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ella Mae Miller, Kathryn Lucas, Virginia Hilderbrand and Doris Cromeans; a brother, Bud Ferguson; and an infant daughter, Carolyn Sue Deckard on January 29, 1939.
