Newkirk Family,  Although I was from Columbus, In, I didn't get to know Sandra until I was a member of Theta Chi at Purdue.  My sympathy goes out to you as you face this terrible loss in your lives.  She had many friends at Purdue, and you can be proud of her accomplishments.  My prayers are with you.

Dewayne and family,
I loved Sandra so much.  She was much more than a teacher and coach.  She was the first person who ever made me feel valuable.  She taught me so much about life and helped me take my first steps into adulthood.  I will always remember her and I treasure all the memories I have of her.  I know she will be greatly missed by many.

Dewayne and Family, I was at Auburn from 1968-72. While there one of the most memorable experiences I had was playing volleyball for Coach Newkirk. She was a wonderful mentor as I also went into teaching and coaching after gradution.I am one of those on whom Coach Newkirk had a wonderful and lasting impact. My heart is heavy knowing she is no longer with us as I know yours is but I rejoice that she is with our ultimate Father and Coach.

Dewayne and family,
Words can not express the sorrow we feel over knowing we will not see Sandra on this earth again--but what joy to know she has gone to live with our Lord and will be helping Him to prepare our places at her side.  Sandra was a great lady and a truly loving one.  We are all better people for having known her.  She was a much loved lady.
My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this time.

What a wonderful, caring, sparkling lady! Sandra, we will miss you deeply.  I pray that the Lord will bring strength and comfort to all your wonderful family and friends.  Vaya con Dios, amiga mia!

I remember a trip the volleyball team took in 1974 (or so) and the personal vehicles we had to travel in back then were packed with team players and gear.  You were with us, as you were on many of our travel games.  We had stopped for gas and there was a watermelon stand across the street.  You asked the gas station attendant if he knew where we could get a watermelon (you knowing full well they were right across the street).  As we anticipated an answer as he rubbed his chin with his hand, to our surprise he said, "No."  What a laugh we all had!  I can sitll here Sandra giggling her signature 'giggle-laugh' that she so often shared during the lighter moments in life.  I know that this time for you is hard, as it is for Sandra's family and friends.  We will miss her greatly. She lived life to the fullest and was dedicated to so many things: her God, you - her husband, Auburn University and the hundreds of students she gave a significant part of her life to; not to mention the service to others she rendered away from "the office."  I have been blessed to have known her and to have been able to spend a small part of our lives on the same road.  
I am thankful for what she taught me and for the example she set as a coach, mentor and friend.

Sandra was an admirable person. She was definitely instrumental in pioneering the women's athletic programs at Auburn University. Her capabilities as an educator of excellence are deeply appreciated and will be missed by those lives she touched throughout her life...

Mr. Newkirk & Family,
   My husband and I just want you to know that you are in our prayers.  Our daughter and "new" son were married on March 2, 2012 at Gulf Shores, Alabama on the beach.  They attend Lakeview Baptist and really love Mr. & Mrs. Newkirk.  I will never forget the kindness that both have shown, making that drive all the way to the beach to attend the wedding. On the rsvp invitation she wrote "we would not miss it for the world!"  They were both there helping us before the wedding and we so appreciate the love that she and Mr. Newkirk have for our children.  Mr. Newkirk, may your faith in god help you through at this difficult time.  You and your family are in our prayers.

Sandra was a great lady who will be missed in this earthly journey of ours.  I look foward to that glad reunion day in heaven in which we will see her again!
