

Shirley Ann Wilkerson, 85, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour. Shirley was born May 7, 1937 in Brown County, Indiana. She was the daughter of William and Elva Greathouse Carmichael. She graduated from VanBuren High School in Brown County.
Shirley married Paul Wilkerson June 30, 1954 and he survives. She was a long-time member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church. She was very active in the church and engaged in several church activities. She organized the bereavement meals and the Retired Teacher’s Meal, and was a member of the Methodist Women’s Group.
She always looked forward to attending church functions, and she enjoyed fishing on the lakes of Kentucky. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and her family was the light of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul Wilkerson; her children, Michael (Jill), Jeffrey (Kristen), and Debra Wilkerson; grandchildren, Andrew Wilkerson, Erin (Kevin) Jant, and Audrey (Justin) Baute, great-grandchildren, Everhett and Eleanor Jant, and Kai Baute; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Lee, Lyle, Lowell, and Loren Carmichael, Verlene Carr, and Virginia Spray.
A funeral service to honor Shirley’s life will be held Saturday, January 7 at 10 am at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Dazet officiating. Friends may gather for visitation on Friday, January 6 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Additional visitation will be held at church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Sandy Hook.
