Peggy was born on April 10, 1930, in Nortonburg, Indiana, to Charles H. and Nora (Norton) Simmons. They preceded her in death.
Peggy was a member of First United Methodist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for several area businesses over the years, known for her attention to detail.
On December 31, 1953, Peggy married the love of her life, Ray H. Butler. Together, they built a loving home and shared 60 years of marriage until Ray’s passing in 2014. Her life centered around her family, and she was a constant source of love, encouragement, and strength to those she held dear.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Perry Simmons and Bill Simmons.
Surviving are her loving children, Kathy (Don) Estepp of Carmel, and Ray (Janie) Butler of Columbus; grandchildren, Harrison (Hiedi) Estepp of of Westfield, Jacob Estepp of Carmel, Katie (Mark) Fabis of Sydney, Australia, and Raymond (Amanda Edwards) Butler of Columbus. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Evelyn and Oliver Estepp of Westfield, Raymond Butler of Terre Haute, Charlie Butler, Alivia Edwards, and Amaya Tays, all of Columbus, and Lincoln and Claudia Fabis, both of Sydney, Australia.
The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl St., with Rev. Mackenzie Phillips officiating. Visitation will also be Thursday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
