

Al Ouimet, age 79 of Upper Arlington, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011. Al was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and grew up in Fall River, Massachusetts, only child of the late Alfred and Eleanor Ouimet. Also preceded in death by his beloved son, Peter. Following high school, Al graduated from the University of Connecticut and went onto serve his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force as an officer. Upon returning home, Al returned to UCONN where he received his PhD in Physical Chemistry and later obtained several scientific patents in the petroleum field. He was a member of the honors societies Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, and Sigma Pi Sigma. Al retired from Chemical Abstract Service after 39 years as a Sr. Scientific Information Analyst. He served as past President and Treasurer of University Kiwanis and was an advisor to the Ohio State University Circle K Club, a service club composed of University students and sponsored by University Kiwanis. Al instilled the love of learning in many individuals. Al worked as a scientist by trade which made him naturally inquisitive, however, he was also a very kind man who enjoyed history, traveling, and most importantly, he loved the time spent together with his grandchildren. He will be missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Louise Ouimet; daughters, Jeanine Hayes and Jacqueline (Richard) Batts, Jr; grandchildren, Michael and Kaley Hayes, Matthew and Emily Ouimet, and Summer Batts; and many other dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Rd. Family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Friday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Father Daniel Ochs, Celebrant. Interment Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
