

He graduated from Jamaica High School in 1941 and in 1944 graduated from City College with his electrical engineering degree. He worked as a U.S. Navy Radio Technician in 1944. After serving in the military, he worked for Glenn L. Martin Co. Baltimore, now Martin Marietta and Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, OH. Continuing his education, he earned his master's in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1950. During his time getting his master's degree, he almost lost his life due to a motorcycle accident. In 1952, he went out west and lived with his cousin Minnie and sold Filter Queen vacuum cleaner. In 1953 moved to California and went to work for Hughes Tool Co., now Hughes Aircraft Co. In 1954, Alan met and married his loving wife, Sigrid Flesvik.
Alan was Barmitzvah'd in 1937 at the Concord Hotel in Fallsburg, NY. Around 1999, he went with his wife, Sigrid, to an Easter service at her church in Whitehall. When they returned home, Sigrid told her family, in Alan's presence, that the pastor had given the invitation: "If you don't know where you're going to spend eternity and want to accept Jesus as your savior-and be sure, stand to your feet." Alan stood to his feet and prayed to accept Christ. For some who have pushed back on accepting Jesus, Alan has told them he had seen proof himself that Jesus was alive and resurrected-changing their lives today.
Alan had many accomplishments in his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Trousdale, and was the inventor of the Underwater Loudspeaker/Founder of Lubell Labs, manufacturer of Underwater Loudspeakers. In the military, he received a Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, and an Asiatic Pacific Medal. While on the U.S.S. Trousdale, he survived a typhoon at sea with 100 mph winds. In 1984, synchronized swimming become an event at the Summer Olympics and his speakers were shown on the news around the world as the announcer explained how the swimmers could hear music underwater. Jacques Cousteau the famous naval officer, explorer, filmmaker, scientist, and scuba-diver was a customer of Alan's.
He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, wisdom and inventive and entrepreneurial spirit. He was a great dad, provider, and example of what perseverance with a good idea can become.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lucille Kotcher, and grandson Ryan Lubell.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sigrid Lubell. Sons: Jim Lubell and wife Mylene, Bob Lubell, and Brian Lubell and wife LuAnn. Grandchildren: Nicole Eichhorn and husband Ryan, Cory Lubell, Stephanie Fry and husband Jesse, Brad Lubell, Scott Lubell and wife Aria, Jordan Lubell, and Halie Lubell. Great grandchildren: Arlo Paul, Cato Lubell, Naomi Lubell, Ellie Fry and PJ Fry. Brother: Paul Lubell and wife Rosalyn. Niece: Karen Ayers and husband Dan. Nephews: Ken Kotcher and wife Carolyn, and Dan Lubell. He is also survived by several cousins.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Green Lawn Cemetery Military section 125.
