One of my favorite times of the year was February when you and Kyle would visit Kell and I in Athens for one of our many infamous sibs weekends. Kelly and I always looked forward to entertaining you boys for the weekend. We tried to plan lots of parties and delicious late-night food fests. Needless to say, those weekends were always packed with fun.  I think my favorite part about those weekends though was just spending time with you guys and listening to you goof and tell jokes. You always knew how to make us laugh and enjoy every moment even if we were just sitting around.  I think a lot of it had to do with that adorable toothy-grin you had. Lit a candle in memory of Alan Michael Tobey

I will never forget the little boy, who would come over to play with my boys. His laughter and giggling made me chuckle, because sometimes he would get started and couldn’t stop. It was contagious. I can picture him and Seldon rolling on the floor laughing uncontrollably on many occasions!  :0)

I remember one of the “camp out in the back yard” sleep-over’s at our house… It was late and I thought Alan, Seldon, Taylor and Logan, were asleep out in the tent. I was getting ready for bed and decided to check to make sure they were all tucked in and before going downstairs and out to the backyard, I looked out the window and to my surprise, there they were, all running around outside of the tent in their underwear, just laughing, giggling and having a blast! I just started laughing. Then I went out to tell them they needed to get in the tent and go to bed, I startled them, (not on purpose), and they all screamed and went running back into the tent. I told them all goodnight, and I went up to bed. Apparently they did not go to bed. From the stories told later, the silliness and goofing around continued almost all night long and of course, more laughter.

Dorla, Mike, Jessica, and Kelly, every day my thoughts have been of you and of Alan, and my prayers have been many and will continue with each day. Hugs to you all.

I do not even know where to begin! Alan, there was never a time I did not have fun with you. I was your fourth roommate this summer while Matt was in Austraila and since the rats took over my house, you guys were nice enough to let me move into your house, and I was your fifth roommate when Matt returned! I have so many memories from the summer I do not even know where to begin. One I will never forget is when me you and Christian started our "Friday happy hour" rituals where every Friday we would go to happy hour around 5 and by the time everyone else met us out, we had already been there for a couple hours and we just had a blast. Since I was at your house I had to record a couple of my shows, Real
housewives of NJ and Keeping up with the Kardashians. I could only watch Real housewives when you boys left the house but you always made sure I waited for you to watch the Kardashians because you loved Scott on the show. I was glad I could sit and watch it with you because Christian would never sit down and watch it with me! For the Wisconsin game this year, there were only a couple of us who didn't go to the game and you put on the buckeye song on repeat and I don't think we have every danced around for so long. Everyone went crazy and you made not going to the game, fun! I'm pretty sure I lost my voice just from singing. 
I always felt accomplished when I got you to let out that amazing laugh of yours because I knew I said something really funny if you laughed like that. Alan you truly were an amazing friend and I can't remember the last time I spent longer then 2 days away from you. When Christian had a lot of school work work about a month ago and he was at the library almost everyday of the week so I hadn't seen you for maybe 5 days and I came over and the first thing you said was "Kelly where have you been? I was worried you and Christian broke up." I love you for all the memories you were able to give me and I will cherish them forever. I will miss sitting on the couch every Sunday for the entire day because that was all of our days to just do nothing. I loved that you would flip back and forth from the Bengals game to the Lions game because you knew I loved the Bengals and you loved the Lions. I will miss you beating all of us in Mario Party because you were somehow amazing at that game!

I will never forget the time all of us cousins were getting a group photo taken together on the hill behind Grandma and Grandpa's apartment when little Alan took a tumble down the hill and Whomever was taking the picture didn't realize it and snapped a photo of Alan tumbling down the hill. Classic classic photo that will live on forever.

Becky, Jon and Matt Weber purchased the Dish Gardens for the family of Alan Michael Tobey.

Alan, I have been looking at this picture a lot in the last few days...I always knew you were a good looking kid, but this photo shows what a handsome young man you grew up to be! I always told Kelly how I wanted you to marry one of my sisters! I thought you were so sweet and would be such a good boyfriend, a great reflection on how your lovely, wonderful parents raised you. I would joke around with Kelly that I was going to ask you out, knowing very well she would kick my butt if I did! So we compromised, and I told her that if I didn't get to walk down the aisle with you at her wedding that I was going to be mad... I mean, we were the best looking couple coming down that aisle (besides your sister and Ben of course!). I hope where you are that you have found peace. What can I say about the best son a father could have?  From the day you were born, and surprised us being a boy, you had the innate ability to light up a room.  I remember our camping trips, soccer practices, school plays and concerts, Thankgiving Day going to the Lion’s games,  teaching you to drive, all of the dances and proms with your friends, High School football, moving you to each new “home away from home” down on campus.  More importantly, I remember our quiet times together, talking and kidding, getting to know each other as a person and friend.  The time we spent as family, encouraging and supporting each other, laughing and crying with each other and most importantly, always loving each other.  I cherish all of these memories and more that we made together.

Your heart was always wide open to everyone you met, and you never met a stranger.  When you entered a room everything seemed just a little brighter.  You had a glow that drew everyone to you.  Your personality and genuine caring for others has touched more lives than any one can know.  You grew into a person that I can only strive to be.
  
Every day that I see the sunshine, I will know that those rays of light are really your sparkling eyes and infectious smile letting us know that you are watching over us.  Place your burdens upon my shoulders, I will carry them for you so that you may find peace and sunshine forever.

Janet G. purchased the Dish Gardens for the family of Alan Michael Tobey.

I went to high school with Alan and although was not 'close' to Alan, I have good memories of watching him play at football games and having a class with him where if lucky enough on any given day, I got to hear that great, infectious laugh! I had a crush on Alan but being shy, never told him or tried to strike up a conversation...I regret that I never did. Alan was one handsome guy and although he and I rarely conversed,  I knew his heart was every bit as beautiful as he was. He always gave off a great vibe and you could tell he had a wonderful spirit. 

To the Tobey family, I was I could begin to take away even an ounce of your pain. I wish I (or anyone) could wave our hand to take every negative feeling or thought from you and throw them away. But because I can't,  I can only express my deepest sympathy, sorrow and ask that you turn to the One who created Alan and knew him before he was of this world. He needed Alan back for something and He only calls tbe best for those. Please remember,  'goodbyes' are not permanent,  they are simply another way of saying 'I will see you later'. 

It was once said that death is not and end, it is only the beginning.  We travel on this earth until we have done what we were made to do. And when our names are called at that time, we start anew and help watch over those who love us. With rest, peace and love and without the pain of the former world. I know Alan is in that place now.

With my deepest sympathy and love to you, Tobey family...I hope you are able to find some peace, rest and hope in this hard time. God brought you to it, He will pull you through it. When He takes back his young, you can rest assured they completed nothing but amazing things in their lifetime.

My greatest memories with Alan were the countless number of Sunday dinners with the whole family around the table. These dinners were no ordinary family dinner when Alan was there because he always graced us with some of the greatest, most hilarious stories. Most of those stories ended with your mom shaking her head while laughing and you smiling that phenomenal smile. It has been an honor to call you my brother for the last 4 years and although I haven't been your brother for the last 22 years you will be my brother forever.  I will carry you in my heart everyday and every where I go.

Although our hearts remain heavy as we struggle with the loss of Alan, they continue to be uplifted by the thoughtful words and actions of others.   I appreciate the love and support many have shown my brother Mike, sister in law Dorla, and my beautiful nieces Jes and Kelly.   I admire the strengthen they are showing during this incredible time of loss.  I am so thankful to have the opportunity to meet many of those who support and love my family.    Al's smile and laughter has continued to be our source of comfort.   God bless and may we all find peace on this journey.

Kelly we are so sorry to hear the news about your brother.  It'll be a difficult next few days, but just surround yourself with your family and friends and remember all the wonderful times you all spent together.  You and your family will be in our thougths and prayers.

I have only the happiest memories of Alan as a child. I remember running around the Tobey house and Alan chasing us in diapers and laughing hysterically when he caught us. The depth of this loss is too great to fathom. All my love, thoughts and deepest sympathy from Texas.

I personally can't remember being in your house growing up and ever seeing Alan without a smile and a great attitude.  He was truly a blessing to all that knew him. I remember going to one of Alan`s football games one Friday night when we were visiting from Athens. I wore his football pin! He looked so cute in the picture and in his uniform. I remember all the Tobeys were there, cheering Alan on and were so proud of him. It was a really great night, thanks for letting me be apart of it, Tobey family. You are all wonderful.

My sincere condolences to the Tobey family, it is hard enough to try to put into words the emotions you are dealing with right now. Unfortunately not too many words from friends and family can bring you a measure of relief.  The source of comfort can only come from knowing the truth about our Creator. Know that Death was not his original purpose for us, which He calls Death an enemy that He will do away with-1 Corinthians 15:26. For the mean time “He heals the brokenhearted; He binds up their wounds.”(Psalms 147:3). So trust in him so that he can provide you the comfort that you need. Again, my sincere condolences.

Your smile is like the sun, shining beams of light and happiness in all directions. It was contagious to anyone who met you! Your uncontrollable belly-laughs were an amazing sound and often sparked many more from others around you. You never met a stranger, always even making a brand new audience fall in love with your caring and sweet personality. Your eyes always had a sparkle in them like the stars and your hugs were like nothing I have ever encountered. Such a love for sports, family, friends and music. It's so hard to imagine you are gone and I won't get those smiles or hugs or belly-laughs. Now my guardian angel, always the light of my life. I love you Alan and miss you more each second. Please continue to look over us, give us those signs that you are with us, and help wipe away my tears. Though the pain is unbearable, I can handle it knowing you are at peace and I'll get to be with you one day more. "It's something unpredictable, but I'm the end its right, I hope you had the time of your life!"

Our hearts are breaking for your family.  Living across the street from you gave us a front row seat to Alan's life.  Alan was never short on friendly smiles for Bethany, Brynne or me.  I loved watching him catch passes for the Worthington Kilbourne Wolves and frankly I think they should have called his number more!  Alan was loved by many and most importantly was lucky to be a part of such an awesome and loving family.  We are praying for God to give you the strength you will undoubtably need to face your terrible loss.  I pray God comforts you in some way with all the precious memories you have to cherish forever.

When we were all in school and living on campus or with friends Jess, Alan and I would make a regular stop at mom and dads for Sunday dinner. There was one day we were ready eat and I sat down and saw there was a glass of water sitting in front of me. I looked up and said who got me the water? Everyone said no except Al, so I said thanks. He swore up and down he didn't get me the water. From that day forward I always sat down and said "hey Al, where's my water?" He always told me to get my own damn water! 
I love you more than words and although today has been beyond tough, it has been filled with sweet reminders that you are and always have been the happiest, funniest, goofiest and most calm person I've ever had the pleasure to know. Thank you for letting me know last night that you were with me. I miss you dear brother. We miss you. Keep smiling because that's what makes me smile. Sweet dreams babe.
