

Dr. Alan Richard Wagner passed away on July 8, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born August 20, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio and is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Barbara, and his brother Dr. Robert Wagner.
Alan is survived by his wife Marjorie of 40 years, of Upper Arlington, Ohio; daughter Lisa (Wagner) Lybrook and husband Mark of Powell, Ohio; daughter Laurie (Wagner) Gibson and husband Tom of Mobile, Alabama; and son Richard Alan Wagner and wife Becky of Upper Arlington; brother Dr. Donald Wagner of Santa Monica, California.
Alan was a proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Jason Alan Meek and wife Pepper, Khristy (Meek) Harding and husband Mark, Michael Gibson and wife Brooke, Jarrod Gibson and wife Katie, Nicole Wagner and Lauren Wagner. Alan was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Keller and Ryder Meek and Iris Gibson.
He was a 1941 graduate of South High School in Columbus. He attended The
Ohio State University and was a member of the Alpha Sci Fraternity. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and his Master of Science degree in pathology also from The Ohio State University. He was a member of the Society of Toxicology and Pathology and the World Health Organization.
Alan served in the United States Army and Coast Guard transporting and caring for horses to Europe during World War II.
Alan was the director of The Ohio State University Laboratory Animal Center for several years. He then went on to developed several drug patents with Antec in London, England. Later he acted as a consultant to several companies, including Smith Kline, where he continued to develop several drug formulations.
Alan enjoyed playing the saxophone in the Bob Crosby Band and traveling to many other countries with his wife. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also a devout animal lover.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, 1900 Coffey Road, Attention: #227487 Good Samaritan Fund, Columbus, Ohio 43210 (for pet owners who cannot afford veterinary care for their animals).
Visitation will be from 11AM to 1 PM on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Schoedinger Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221 with funeral services to follow officiated by Reverend Tom Gibson, Christ Fellowship Baptist Church of Mobile, Alabama. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.
