

Albert Baxter Goelz, Sr., age 84, died at Emeritus at Chestnut Hill on June 23, 2012. He was a lifelong resident of Columbus and the last of the Manchester Avenue Goelz family. He was a retired letter carrier, U.S. Main Post Office, with 37 ½ years of service. He was a past member of Linden United Methodist Church, past President of the Board of Trustees of the Columbus Postal Employees Credit Union. Al donated 12 years as caretaker of the Eastmoor-South swimming pool. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #0888, Delaware, OH, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8794, Whitehall, OH and AMVETS Post #89, Columbus. Albert was an Army veteran of WWII, temporarily assigned to the 101st Airborne Division Search and Destroy Team for covert duty on the island of Luzon in the Philippine Islands. He was a committee member of the first ever graduating class of Linden-McKinley High School in 1945. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvan Louis Goelz, Sr., and Ethel Beatrice Baxter; son, Albert Baxter Goelz, Jr.; brother, Sylvan Louis Goelz, Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Goelz Wright and Letha Goelz Yezzi. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Virginia Lee Hatten Goelz; daughter, Regina (Brad) Ziessler; daughter-in-law, Marilyn McConnell Goelz Willis and her husband, Bill Willis; granddaughters, Alyssa (Danny) Huddleston, Madeline Lee Goelz; step grandsons, Jack and Sam; great grandsons, Daniel and Lucas Huddleston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd.)
