Albert William Wilson, age 87. After a long and wonderful life Al (also known as Bill) left his earthly friends and family on Sunday, April 17. Al was born and raised in Grandview Heights, graduating from high school there in 1948. He married Betty Joan Robbins in 1949 and they spent the next 61 years together. They moved to Upper Arlington to raise their family and immersed themselves in neighborhood activities through the College Hill Club, highlighted by working on an annual float for the Upper Arlington Fourth of July parade. Al worked a variety of jobs while at National Electric Coil from 1948 through 1980. He considered his time there as his college education, and the friendships he developed there lasted a lifetime. In retirement Al volunteered his time with church programs through Trinity Methodist Church and later at Riverside United Methodist Church. He loved to play golf and shared that enthusiasm as a volunteer at Fore Hope where he was formally recognized for outstanding achievement in 2006.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joan (2011). He is survived by his sons; Steve (Kathie) and Jim (Rose Bolen); grandchildren, Dylan and Hannah and great-grandson Lucas. Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, April 21 with a reception at the family home immediately following. Burial will take place in the western section of Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Road. Rev. David Griebner officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Fore Hope, Inc., 1169 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215 ([email protected]) or a charity of your choice, in his memory. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd.
