

A memorial service, to celebrate the life of Alice Marie (Nupp) Meagher, 84 of Newark, will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 732 Hebron Rd., Heath , Ohio 43056, with Pastor Dick Burgie officiating. Everyone is invited to the celebration reception at the church, directly after the memorial service. Interment will be held at a later date in Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
Alice was born in Canton, Ohio on July 29, 1926 to the late H. Orville and Marie Alice (Shirk) Nupp. She passed away at her residence on August 11, 2010. Alice graduated from Clearfield High School in PA, and also attended Hood College in Frederick, MD.
In New Castle, PA, she served in Junior Women’s Club, the Walmo PTA, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #105, the first board for the W. Mark Sexton Memorial Assembly #3, Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was instrumental in acquiring the land for Pearson Park in Neshannock Township and involved in the park’s first pool association, started the ball fields, had the family out with hand sickles, twine and stakes to lay out the first Girl Scout day camp units. She served Girl Scouts as a neighborhood chairman, trainer, as well as leader. She also served the Boy Scouts as den leader for the pack that met at St. John’s Lutheran Church; served the congregation as a member of the adult choir, VBS director and children’s choir leader; worked at First Federal Savings and Loan, Strauss-Hershburgs Department Stores and was also an interior designer for Haney-Frew’s furniture.
After moving to the Licking County area in 1966, she was an active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Heath, sang in the choir, was on church council, and was a co-teacher with her husband of an adult Sunday School class. As a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she was a choir member and served as director of the children’s choir. She was also a past State President of Church Women United, after serving as that organization’s Area D’s Head and a State Chairman for the God and Country Award. She worked as a teller at the Newark Trust main office helped start the Licking County Coalition for Housing; was a Girl Scout for 25 years; and volunteered for Catholic Social Services.
Her survivors include her children, BonnaLee “Bonnie” (Michael) Greenwald, William Donald “Bud” Meagher and Stephen Bruce “Boots” (Marsha Weber) Meagher; her grandchildren, Monica Sarah (Stephen B.) McClellan, Adam Marshall Meagher and Melinda Sue Greenwald; her great -grandchildren, Alyssa Grace Meagher and Carter Roarke McClellan; and other surviving nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Donald Meagher, Sr. in 2006.
