
After graduating from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Youngstown of Ohio, Alice married Norman B. Wolford in 1951. She and Norm raised 8 children before Alice returned to nursing in oncology and palliative care at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She retired after 17 years of service.
Alice and Norm were long-time members of the St. Thomas More Newman Center, where they served on the baptism and RCIA committees. She was a Master Gardener, serving as a volunteer at Chadwick Arboretum. Her other passions included her grandchildren, reading, politics, and following lacrosse. Alice was preceded in death by parents, James J. and Edith T. McPhillips; and brother and sister-in-law, John J. and Barbara G. McPhillips. Survived by her husband of 58 years, Norm; 8 children, Jayne, Sue, Dan (Jane), Bill (Sue), Ann (Kevin) Connors, Ted, John (Colleen), Kate; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six granddogs; and many loving nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Newman Center, 64 W. Lane Avenue, where a memorial Mass will be held, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009.
