

Andrew E. Diwik, age 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, January 16, 2011. He was born in Chicago, IL, on December 5, 1934, to the late Andrew and Mary Diwik. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School and Northwestern University, Andrew served in the US Army working at the Pentagon. He then continued his career as a systems engineer at IBM. This position brought him to Columbus, where he raised his family and eventually retired from Chemical Abstracts Service as Chief Financial Officer. Andrew was a devoted husband, father and brother. He took great joy spending time with and helping family. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and distributor of Holy Communion. His faith was an important part of his life. It provided him with great strength, comfort and joy. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Ohio Radio Reading Service, and other charitable causes. He took pride in cultivating his rose garden, and he was an avid fan of all Chicago sports. He loved spending his summers at his cottage in Door County, WI where he enjoyed life and time with his children and their families. Andrew was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia M. (Walker) Diwik; and his sister, Mary Massett. He is survived by his children, Lisa (Mark) Douple, Andrew (Jacqueline) Diwik, David (Marianne) Diwik, James (Pamela) Diwik, Jason (Caroline) Diwik, and Clarice (Abrahim) Caroci; siblings, Walter Diwik, Helen Klages, Jean Magold, and Alice Ziemann; brother- and sister-in-law, Mike and Millie Walker; 11 grandchildren; and other extended family members and friends. Family will receive relatives and friends from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, with a prayer service at 8:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, at St. Andrew Church, 1899 McCoy Road, Fr. Michael B. Watson, Celebrant.
