2013, at Claremont Retirement Village, in northwest Columbus. He was born on August 1,
1920, in Sant Angelo in Grotte, Campobasso, Italy to the late Luigi Castrilli and
Adolorada Pizzi. He married Antoinette (Toni) D’Ascanio on Nov. 29, 1947. He lived 83
years of his life in Fairport Harbor, Lake County, Ohio.
Angelo was a kind, humble and gentle man who loved his family above everything else.
He was a florist and the owner of Castello’s Flower Shop in Fairport Harbor. He loved
Fairport and left a legacy of generosity and giving that Fairporters still talk about today.
Two examples of Angelo’s generosity are: everyone leaving his flower shop received
carnations as a gift for themselves or their moms, and every graduating senior from Fairport
Harding High School was given a mechanical pencil or pen. Angelo served as a medic in the
US Air force during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of several service
organizations notably the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and the Fairport Men’s Civic
Club.
Angelo was preceded in death by his wife Antoinette D’Ascanio Castello. Survivors include his three children: Michelina (Micki) Bensman of Columbus, OH; Dolores Rego of Whittier, CA; and Angela (Arnie) Serota of Kauai Island, Hawaii. He will be missed by grandchildren Natalie (Kyle) Hildebrandt and great grandchild Eli of Columbus, OH; Shellie (Andrew) Smith of Worthington, OH; Libby Rego of Los Angeles, CA; Sara Rego (Allan Gomez) and great grandchildren Zoey Rego-Martinez and Adler Gomez of Whittier, CA; Evan Rego currently of Fairport Harbor; Lauren Serota of Austin, TX; and Nathan Serota of Honolulu, HI.
Angelo’s family will welcome friends at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6899 Smoky Row Road, northwest Columbus, at 8:30 am on Friday October 4, 2013 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am with Fr. Mark Summers celebrant.
