

Arlan Charles Thorley, age 71, of Gahanna, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2012. He was born June 22, 1940 in Canton, Ohio and was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy E. Cunliffe and father, Arlan R. “Gus” Thorley. He moved to Worthington in 1943, Florida in 1948 and then back to Ohio in 1951, where he went on to graduate from New Albany High School in 1958. Arlan served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years. He went to work for Ohio Bell Telephone Co., in February of 1962 and retired from there 31 years later. Arlan was a hard working man and over the years was employed by: Target, Channel Co., Excel Co., Time Warner Co., Synergetic Design Co. for AEP and Enterprise Car Co. up until he got sick. Arlan went to Franklin University for 3 years and was a member of New England Lodge F&AM #4 for 46 years; Council and Chapter-Knights Templer; Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason; Shriner Peerless Patrol (Captain-10 years) and a member of the Jesters. He was an Alpha Athletic Club ex-secretary and a member of a senior golf league. He loved The Ohio State University and enjoyed 25 years of working security in the press box and as a parking lot attendant. “Ohio State Forever.” He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Karen (Campbell) Thorley; sisters, Diane Schweder of FL, Sandra Jean and Joe Conde of CA, Charlene and Paul Lacoco of MD, and Linda Sue and Paul Booher of FL; sisters-in-law, Nancy Chellis of Columbus and Rebecca Campbell of Houston; best friend Rick McCreary; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and good friends. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8pm (7:30pm Masonic Service) Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 where services will be held at 11am Friday; Pastor Steve Brown, officiating. Immediately following the funeral, all are welcome to join the family for h’orderves at the Aladdin Shrine Center, 3850 Steltzer Rd., Columbus, OH, 43219. The family would like to express their appreciation to friends and neighbors who have helped Arlan through the trials and tribulations with his battle with cancer; as well to Dr. Chitiac and the employees at the Zangmeister Center.
