Arlene Skeen, age 85, of Columbus, Ohio, died peacefully at home and returned to her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday morning, September 21, 2011. Born June 9, 1926, in Seth, West Virginia, she was preceded in death by her husband Glenver Ralph; parents, Hattie and George A. Williams; son, Richard L. Skeen; daughter, Victoria Cable; and brothers, Chester, Blaine and Burl Williams. Survived by her daughters, Susan McAndrew, Patricia (Bob) Stevens, Barbara Stevens, Carla Skeen, and Kathryn Skeen; sons, Ronald (Karen) Skeen, Pastor Robert (Denise) Skeen, Charles (Pat) Skeen, Christopher Skeen, and Timothy Skeen. Also survived by her loving sister, Avanell Rundels; brothers, Wayne Williams and Norman George (Elvie) Williams; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and her loyal canine buddy, Rusty. Arlene followed the love of her life in 1942 to his Army base in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they began their married life and subsequently moved to Columbus, Ohio, in 1946, and began raising a family of 12 children. She devoted her life to her husband and children’s care, and found time to be active in PTA, PEBS group, and numerous volunteer efforts in her Southside community. After retiring from National City Bank in 1989, she devoted her time to her grandchildren, the Mustard Seed ministry, and her church (Hilltonia United Methodist). She stayed in touch with countless friends and surrogate children throughout the country. Her heart was as big as the mountains she loved, and her impact on so many lives is immeasurable. The family is deeply grateful for the outstanding care our mother received from Lynn Graves and the Passport Services staff, Home Health Connections, and Mount Carmel East doctors and nurses. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, with a Celebration of Life memorial service starting at 7 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlene’s memory to Hilltonia United Methodist Church, the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, or Salvation Army.
