

Dr. Sagone was born April 23, 1937 in Pittsburgh PA to the late Dr. Arthur L Sagone, Sr. and Gertrude (Evans) Sagone. He is survived by his children Katherine (Jose Montenegro) Roberts, John (Laura Zajkowski) Sagone, Arthur Sagone and Matthew (Shelva) Sagone; grandchildren Jessica (Chad) Roberts-Hughes, Michael (Brittany) Roberts, Zachary Sagone, Luke Sagone and Alexandra Sagone; great grandson Jensen Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith and sister Anita.
Dr. Sagone lived in Columbus, Ohio where he was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Parish. He graduated from Peabody High School in Pittsburgh in 1955. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959 with a BS in Chemistry. He graduated first in his class from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a Captain from 1964-1966.
Dr. Sagone married the love of his life Judith on June 20, 1964 in Pittsburgh PA, and remained devoted to her until her passing in 2014.
Dr. Sagone completed a fellowship in Hematology at Ohio State University from 1968-1970, and in 1970 he joined the faculty at Ohio State University, Division of Hematology and Oncology. There he performed research and taught in the school of Medicine until his retirement in 2001 as Professor Emeritus. During that time, he collaborated on numerous scientific studies and publications, many focused on the effects of smoking. He was internationally recognized for his research and beloved by his students and patients. He was also a strong supporter of the University as a member of the President’s Club and loved attending basketball games with his wife Judie.
A visitation for Dr. Sagone will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221. A mass of Christian burial will occur Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Rd, Columbus, OH 43220. A graveside service will occur Friday, March 7, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N High St, Lewis Center, OH 43035.
