Our beautiful daughter, sister and wife, Ashley Nicole Cameron-Roberts, left this world unexpectedly in her sleep on July 10, 2020 at the young age of 29. Ashley was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 16, 1991 and attended Dublin Scioto High School where she graduated with honors. She went on to graduate from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and had just recently accepted a position with the City of Columbus as an income tax auditor. She is survived by her husband Nicholas Roberts, parents Deborah L. Cameron, Gary B. Cameron (Nancy), siblings Madeline (Donald) Plumadore, Amber Beyer, Kaitlin Cameron (Roderick Thorne), brother-in-law Tim Roberts, nieces Caylee and Cameron Plumadore, Maddie Roberts, grand parents Edward and Donna Kubic, Don and Mary Cameron along with numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. She is preceded in death by her step-brother Joseph Beyer, great grandparents and grandmother Mary Suzzanne Stevens.
As a child Ashley attended catechism classes and was confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Joan of Arc church. She loved playing soccer as a kid and as a teenager. Ashley volunteered at the Citizens for Humane Action dog and cat shelter which helped spark her love of animals. In high school she went on to appear in several school plays with her best friend since kindergarten April Zaborsky. After earning her BSBA from Xavier University, Ashley went on to briefly attend the United States Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island where only 1 of 1000 applicants are selected for this honor. Shortly after coming home she would meet the love of her life, Nicholas Roberts in October 2014 and would go on to get married on June 1, 2019.
Ashley shared the last chapter of her life with the one person that truly understood her the most, her husband Nicolas Roberts and their cats, Delos, Artemis and Apollo. Their furry family grew when she rescued Artemis and Apollo but her true love was for Delos. In greek mythology Delos, meaning "brilliant" , is the sacred birth place of Artemis and Apollo. Greek mythology was just one of the many genres of books that filled her shelves. Ashley was an avid animal lover, she used her last few weeks on this earth to rescue a kitten and find it a home. That was just who she was. Her family called her the cat whisperer or crazy cat lady, because without a doubt if a cat was in need they would find comfort with her knowing they would have a home.
How do you put a life into words when the person who passes is the one with the most beautifully written mind. Ashley's mind worked in so many ways, but to know her and understand her is a different kind of intimacy. She often found solace in a book where she could let her mind roam. It was Ashley's dream to one day have her own personal in-home library, and it seems as if she was half way there. She loved to read books that challenged the mind or something that had a fantasy aspect about it. We like to believe that sparked her interest in musical theater in high school, her love of movies and tv series. Ashley had an artistic mind and hand. She was a wonderful sketch artist and had won an award for her self portrait drawing in high school. She was teaching herself how to embroider and was often found doodling on whatever paper was in front of her.
Ashley loved to help others if she could, and even if she couldn't. Athough she was extremely independent, she always valued other's opinions. She made time to help others, or to simply be a part of their lives. Besides Ashely's compassionate heart, she was always open about everything life had to offer her. Her likes, dislikes, and her out take and opinions on what was happening in this world. Ashley was an incredibly smart human being even though she didn't always show it. She had a philosophical take on life and was always able to see the bigger picture. There was a quote from Albert Einstein that she had recently liked, it says "The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before". For Ashley, this saying held true for it spoke about the growth she endured throughout life. Learning to love oneself isn't an easy task for the weak minded. They also say, to love others you must love yourself first. With the amount of love and compassion Ashley had within herself, there must have been something so special and bright that it was deemed important for her to return home.
Without Ashley, our life will be like a book without page numbers; the story will continue to go on, but at times it might feel out of order. However one of her favorite authors put it best,
"To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." - J.K. Rowling
