

Barbara (Bobbie) Gardiner, age 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 3, 2016. Born to parents Carl and Emily Schlesselman of St. Paul, Minnesota, Barbara was married for 57 years to John Harold Gardiner of Grandview, Ohio and together they became lifelong residents of Upper Arlington, Ohio. Preceded in death by her husband John Gardiner, brother Carl Henning, sister Ann Hellekson and son John Zeller Gardiner, Bobbie is survived by her daughter Barbara (Robin) Neal, sons James Harold Gardiner (Ginger Gardiner) and Andrew Mark Gardiner, grandchildren Amanda Stodghill (Lance Stodghill), Jaime Neal, Mark Gardiner, Lindsey Gardiner, Isabel Gardiner and Olivia Gardiner, and great grandchildren Andrew Cermak, Tyler Cermak, Slade Stodghill and Rolan Stodghill. Bobbie grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. Summers were spent outside of the city on Lake Minnetonka where her love of water sports and cottage life was nurtured. Her college education began at the University of Minnesota, but was cut short by WW II, when she enlisted and served in the United States Marine Corps. Beginning with her honeymoon in St John's Cove on the shores of Otsego Lake in Northern Michigan, the Gardiner family cabin became one of Bobbie's favorite places, where she would spend the next 71 summers with family and dear friends. A PEO Chapter AV member since 1947 (president four times), Bobbie was also an active member in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Childhood League Assisting Board IV, First Community Church Guild Y, Bridge Club, Scioto Country Club and she volunteered at Riverside Hospital for over 24 years. Service will be held January 16, 2016 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43212. The family will have calling hours from 10:30 - 11:30 in Brownlee Hall with a celebration of life to follow in Burkhart Chapel.
