Barbara Gettman

Barbara Ann (Manning) Gettman, age 96, passed away early Friday morning, February 7, 2025 at the Ganzhorn Suites in Columbus, Ohio. Barbara was born on January 17, 1929 in Meadville, PA to the late Howard and Frieda (Eiffert) Manning.

Barbara lived in Meadville for much of her life, graduating from Allegheny College and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, which she loved. Barbara met John Gettman, Fremont Memorial Hospital Administrator, at the Fremont Country Club while on a visit to see her Aunt Ann and Uncle Otto Fleck, whom she frequently visited. She married John on October 23, 1954.

Barbara was an active volunteer at the Fremont Memorial Hospital Mobile Meals, and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, as well as the Garden Club, Cosmopolitan, and the League of Women Voters.

Barbara enjoyed cooking and baked an amazing carrot cake which was a favorite of the family. She was a lifelong golfer and especially enjoyed reading, needlepointing, gardening, playing bridge and travelling with John and their many friends.

Barbara will be greatly missed by her children Mindy Zielke of Ft. Wayne, IN and Lisa (Marty) Igel of Upper Arlington, OH. Her grandchildren Maggie Igel (Andrew) Heath, Bonnie Igel, Evan Zielke and her great granddaughter, Naomi Igel Heath. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Tom Gettman and her nephew and niece, Matthew Gettman and Mandy Gettman.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John, who passed in 2012.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, February 15 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. A private family burial will take place at the Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Hospice, Columbus, Ohio or to the Alzheimer’s Association. A special thank you to the staff at Ganzhorn Suites and Capital City Hospice who cared for Barbara.
